Challenge Stream:

Gender Affirming Care

Neelam Punjani (Amber Hussain)

Challenge Champion:

Challenge Description:

Gender-based violence (GBV) significantly impacts the mental and sexual health of survivors, especially women and gender-diverse individuals. These survivors face multiple barriers when seeking help, including stigma, fear of retaliation, and lack of access to services. Intersectional factors like socioeconomic status, race, and cultural background further complicate their ability to obtain necessary care. This challenge aligns with the 2025 I4H theme, emphasizing the need for tailored health services addressing the unique experiences of GBV survivors. GBV leads to serious mental health issues such as depression and PTSD, alongside risks to sexual health, including STIs and unintended pregnancies. An AI solution that provides a safe, anonymous support network can help overcome barriers by prioritizing users' safety, connecting them with vital resources, raising awareness of available services, and facilitating peer support.
